Jefferson Starship - Greatest Video Hits [2004] DVD5 Jefferson Starship is an American rock band from San Francisco, California that evolved out of the group Jefferson Airplane following the departure of bassist Jack Casady and guitarist Jorma Kaukonen. The band has undergone several major changes in personnel and genres through the years while retaining the same Jefferson Starship name. The band name was retired in 1985, but picked up again in the early 1990s by a Paul Kantner-led revival of the group. This collection of videos is the Jefferson Starship period after Marty Balin. In Jefferson Airplane, Grace Slick rebelled against her image. In Starship, she embraces the cameras in modelesque fashion. As videos go the group reaches the space age on "Stranger" and "Winds Of Change". On the downside the cheezy "We Built This City" makes no sense starting in Las Vegas then ending in San Francisco. Promoter Bill Graham and politician Willie Brown make cameo appearances on "Layin' It On The Line".
